The award was given during a Life Care ceremony held at the American Medical Directors Association Annual Conference in Orlando, Florida. Seven other division award winners and a company-wide winner were also honored.
Elkerm began working as the on-site physician at Life Care Center of Leominster in November 2013.
“He quickly became an admired, respected and positive fixture of the facility,” said Bill Reidt, executive director at Life Care Center of Leominster. “Patients and their families have been giving constant feedback about Dr. Elkerm and his compassion, understanding and tireless efforts on their behalf.”
Elkerm initiated educational sessions for the nursing staff at the center, called Clinical Pearls, in which associates can ask questions about clinical matters.
Elkerm follows patients closely through their entire episode of care, doing rounds at the local hospital and finding ways to reduce the number of patients who have to return to the hospital from the facility. As a result, the re-hospitalization numbers for Life Care Center of Leominster are the lowest among the division’s 25 skilled nursing and rehab centers.
“Physicians play a pivotal role in the care of our residents,” said Beecher Hunter, Life Care president, “and we are proud to honor those who stand out in their commitment and their compassion to ensure the health and well-being of those entrusted to them.”
